This review is from: Nikon Coolpix L100 10 MP Digital Camera with 15x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom (Camera) After extensive research on advanced point-and-shoots that use AA batteries (something I require), I settled on three: the Nikon L100, the Canon Powershot SX10IS, and the Fujifilm s8100fd. So you know the perspective from which this review is coming, I’m not an experienced photographer but I’m not clueless either. However, this is my first camera more advanced than a basic point-and-shoot. So I’ll call myself an informed beginner. This is why I chose the L100: COST: The L100 is significantly less expensive than the SX10IS. The s8100fd’s price was comparable to the L100, but I felt that the technology on the L100 was better. Amazon had the best price I could find (besides some sketchy online sellers). TECHNOLOGY: This was a toughy. All three of these cameras have comparable technology (image stabilization, zoom, megapixels, face recognition, scene modes, etc. etc.) and each has one or two unique features that I found very attractive. Pros: zooms in like a professional Cons: cannot use rechargeable batteries The Nikon Coolpix L100 digital camera is the best digital camera on the market as far as i am concerned. It puts the power of a 15x telephoto zoom into a compact easy to use design. you can shoot wide angle scenes (28mm) to telephoto (420mm)and up to 30 consecutive pictures at 13 frames per second. The scene auto selector the Coolpix L100 automatically selects the appropriate scene mode for best results. you can raise or lower the built in flash. comes with a camera strap and lens cap. uses four lithium or alkaline AA batteries. it has an internal memory of 44 MB or you can use a SD memory card. it has a movie mode with the maximum of 25 minutes. it has a playback mode. you can connect it to televisions, computers, and printers. this camera is so awesome that i was able to get a picture of a wild duck in a tree in my yard when i couldnt even see what it was with my naked eye. i heard a funny noise in the tree, so i zoomed in on the object and snapped a picture. when i uploaded it to my computer, i was amazed at how detailed the ducks colors were!

Question:

Nikon Coolpix L100 no rechargeable batteries?

I have been debating on buying the Nikon Coolpix L100, but the only thing holding me back is the fact that it needs 4 AA batteries. It states that it does NOT take rechargeable batteries. Really is this true? Also, I found there is a firmware update that says that you can nowmake it take rechargeable batteries? http://www.dcviews.com/press/nikon-l100-1.htm Does anyone own this camera and know for sure?

Answer
yes, I do have this camera, and I see a bunch of reviews on that as well, but luckily, Nikon listened to all of those complaints and decided to come out with rechargeable batteries for the L100 Nikon announces rechargeable NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) batteries: one set of four Ni-MH batteries EN-MH2-B4, and a set that includes the battery charger MH-73. The battery charger MH-73 allows you simultaneous charging of sets of four batteries. In addition, a firmware update will be released for the Coolpix L100 camera (supports four AA batteries) that adds support for these NiMH rechargeable batteries. The firmware update is scheduled for this Summer.
